The show was sold out of all advanced tickets but luckily Spaceland held 50-100 for "Day of the show". The whole place MIGHT _legally_ hold 300 people. So, we waited 2 1/2 hours (after our 6 hour drive from Phoenix to L.A.) in what turned out to be a very long line for those tickets. Everyone in line was very cool and friendly, but later the bar was filled with lots of lukewarm, still standing, arms crossed LA "people". GVSB was hanging out watching the opening bands while many "girly-girl chicks" were trying thier best to "hook up" with each and every one of the band members. It was great fun to watch! Bill Misogynous brought in his camera and asked Scott if they'd mind if he took a few live pictures .. he told him "no problem". Latter after a "few" LARGE drinks he cornered and yapped at/with Eli and Alexis about what they thought of our (Etan's) SevenSeas mailing list...
The first opening band was an Aussie band that has been previouly spoken about hear on the list (I forget thier name). They had a really cute/sexxy female lead singer/guitar player... but that's about the only thing I liked about them (too cheesy metal for my tastes....) The second band I REALLY REALLY liked (can't remember thier names either).
GVSB began the show with "Park Avenue" (I'm seeing a trend here!) and followed it up with two other Freakonica songs (all of which I felt sounded pretty piss poor IMHO). The band sounded great after the "rough beginning" and really kicked ASS the rest of the night! Also they seem to now have a new 5th member!!!!... A full time DJ on stage! It really added to the whole mix... VERY cool. I hope they keep him for the rest of the tour. It worked out great and he filled up the sound really nicely.
The only bad parts were: 1) it took a while for the ridgid & arms crossed audience to get the hell out of the way of the people who wanted to get our "ass in orbit") 2) they didn't play "Let Me Come Back" 3) They ended with my least favorite GVSB song of all time (I think it's called "Speedway"... the one with the cheesy lyrics about: kissing my headache/strobe light) and 4) The worst was that Alexis had no drum riser so NO one could see him beat the shit out of his drums as brilliantly as he does!
In the personal dept.....all of the band members looked to be in great heath however Alexis had some major bags under his eyes but he played great just the same.
Also they now have Freakonica T-Shirts! VERY cool (as always) and I'm sure Alexis did the design again. They are dark blue, the front has four big white bars (exactly like the Black Flag logo only even on the top and bottoms) and a large white GVSB under it. The back has the four bars (samller)... but its says Girls Against Boys and the cutest cartoon drawing of two male and female cartoons kissing while holding hands) this is placed right below the back collar. Then in the middle of the back in large white typewritter font it says "punk ass gold power™"
Sorry if this post doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I've only gotten a few hours of sleep since the show, I'm baked, road tired and weery.
