The band tore through an intense 1 hour plus set in front of a packed house at Upstairs at Nicks in the Olde City section of Philadelphia. The set featured a mix of new and old songs. The single from the upcoming album "Park Avenue" was a great way to start the set. It led into another fresh song that featured the chorus "Love in the Psycho Future." Then they turned it up a notch by pounding out " Learned It." which led to some overly aggressive moshing by a Frenchman in the pit. Another kicking new song "Roxy" featured a chorus that played off the words "Whatever" and "Forever." Black Hole and Cowboyz Orb featured some great riffs. The new disc should be smokin' when it comes out. "Kill the Sexplayer" and "Super-Fire" grinded the gears even further. "Kinda Mzk" and another new song "Speedway" followed to close out another great GVSB show. There were no encores, but everyone left satisfied for now--until the new disc comes out..
A couple of side notes: Eli Janney was wearing an Atari T shirt while pounding out the bass and keys. Calls from the audience wanted him to play some Atari game noises, but he only admitted to having some new technology for the evening. GVSB also had "ABBA" written on their Bass drum, but no ABBA songs were played. Sorry you missed it. It was a great night out at Upstairs at Nicks in Philly. Hopefully they'll play the roomier Trocadero when they tour with the new album.
