Just got back from an exhausting but exhilarating road trip seeing GVSB in Montreal and Toronto (missed Kitchener due to the Sloan show and the Cake show that night in Toronto). They were great! Both shows rocked - Montreal was a much better sounding club, but I was amazed by how good it sounded in Toronto (anyone who has been to the Warehouse knows that the sound there can be really dicey). Also, they have a good light show, which is so nice to see for an opening band (as most get virtually no lights). The boys were in fine form and the Canadian audiences seemed to be giving them much love - even though it was a Garbage crowd. I think the mix of the two bands is working really well though. I heard a lot of people talking after the Montreal show about how impressed they were with GVSB having never heard of them before.
In Toronto Shirley Manson started telling the audience that they had to go out and get the GVSB album right away. She was raving about them from the stage for quite a while (much longer than your standard "we wanna thank _____ for opening for us"). She ended her shout out with "we have to educate our children" and make them listen to GVSB. It was awesome because so many Garbage fans listen to what she has to say. It was also nice to see a bunch of kids wandering around in Toronto wearing GVSB t-shirts as well.
Celebrity GVSB spottings - the boys were at Depeche Mode in Montreal, Afghan Whigs in Toronto, and Money Mark and Buffalo Daughter in Toronto as well. I guess rest is not a priority (for them) right now!
Anyway, for those of you who still have shows coming up - have a great time! They were fab in Canada. Have fun with the crowd surfing alligator and dragon...
