I've been waiting forever to get the chance to do this, so I apologive if I ramble at all. Went last night to the UCSD campus here in San Diego to see the boys, I live across town and don't have a car yet so my friend and I were on various buses for a couple hours to get there. Anyhow, it was in a basketball arena on campus, the front half. You had the choice of standing in front of the stage or sitting to the side in the bleachers. Most of the people were other college kids there to see Garbage, so it was pretty tame during the band's set.....kinda. A pretty rowdy mosh pit broke out three or four songs in, it was craziest during Exorcisto (which was my favorite last night). If I remember the set list it went like this:
Park Avenue
Let Me Come Back
Learned It
Vogue Thing
Superfire
Vera Cruz
Roxy
Bulletproof Cupid
A very short set, about 40 minutes, and the first time I didn't see a band in a club, so the atmosphere sort of sucked, that and the plan, a lot of them were standing still, I was sort of out of place boogying. Anyhow, the band was fucking top notch, virtually flawless, I noticed a lot of extensions, strange fills (especially on Vera Cruz, I think it was, some fill where it got real quite and Johnny did something with the bass), different lyrics, but the band was really energetic and they just plain rocked. Afterwards I went out to meet them, I didn't want to bring anything to have to carry around so I had them sign my ticket. Talked to Alexis for a second, just mentioned how I've been waiting a couple of years to see them and how great they played.
A little side note, I'm fully heterosexual, but that Alexis was one handsome guy. Maybe it was just envy, guys, can anyone back me up?
By the time I got to Scott everyone had gone back inside to see Garbage. I asked him if they were planning on doing a b-sides session like they did with Disco 666, and he said something like this:
"Yeah, hopefully sometime this winter we might go in do some stuff for ourselves, we can release some alternative stuff, not really the music, but the format, 12"s and stuff."
I also asked about Boogie Wonderland:
"Yeah, we were told that the movie should be coming out sometime this fall (I got the impression he didn't know what it was called), we haven't heard anything about it. We do this club scene in like '78 (I thought it was '81?) as a cheesy punk rock band, they dressed us up as a real funny looking glam rock band, you guys'll like it, it was pretty funny."
All very nice guys, Eli had his 'picture this t-shirt wet' shirt on. Someone mentioned them looking kind of haggard-I couldn't see it except in Scott a little but from what I hear and have seen in pictures he always looks that way:)
Very cool experience, Garbage did play very well, but I had to leave early. Met Michael Ross and his friend there, many apologies again for not being able to meet you before the show, I was trapped in the crowd. Got a lot of pictures, maybe at some point in the future I'll be able to scan them and put them, hopefully they turn.
I get to see Blonde Redhead on the 24 at a smaller place at that campus and possibly PJ Harvey the next night in LA. Yay! Ok, later.
