Well Chris and I attended yet another session of House of GVSB at The 400 Bar on Tuesday and here's the poop....
Major News: It looks like GVSB is finishing up the recording a little earlier than expected as next week will be the finial HoGVSB in town.
This weeks gossip includes:
Johnny was "all over" a very "Minnesota Plain" looking female that was far from "hip" looking (albeit she did have a nice body). What can ya' say... he's got needs, he's stuck in Minnesota, and I'm sure she a very nice girl on the inside.
Eli was spinning good dance tunes (as usual) and he played my latest fave "Dirt" by Death in Vegas (a VERY cool tune) which made my night. Eli rocks! What didn't rock was his guest DJ from Radio K. This girl SUCKED!!! I mean she REALLY SUCKED...The worst dance crap I've ever heard.... but all of her TOTAL GEEEKY clique flooded the dance floor (all 10 of 'em) which made Eli's set look (unfairly) unpopular in comparison. We almost left but then Eli finally must have had enough (like myself) and kicked her ass off the stage and preceded to play late 70's disco (Rick Jame's "Super Freak", "Car Wash", etc.,) her clique stayed and danced.
Alexis showed up late and sat with what looked to be a couple of friends. Eli during his break, sat with a very attractive blonde and her friend. Scott was a no show. Johnny spent the whole night trying to get into the pants of the "Ms. Minnesota Plain".
Thats the dirt... Next week is the last chance for GVSB to play live at HoGVSB. I've got my fingers crossed. Should they play... expect a full review here and plenty of images at Bughouse. PLEASE GOD LET THEM ROCK!

The saga continues here in Minneapolis. This week's 400 Bar advertisment in The Cities Pages lists GVSB this Tuesday. Mysteriously absent is "House of ..."
Is this another misprint? Are GvsB sending a message to the bar manager... you bump us and we'll (figuratively) burn your place to the ground? Or are we just plain being had?
My girlfriend _says_ she heard on Radio K (college radio) that this week it would be Girls Against Boys at House of GVSB. That is, local female DJ's spinning records against local male DJ's (ala Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video I presume?).
I guess we'll all find out Tuesday night.
Reporting from the home of Alterna-country-rock (i.e. Minneapolis, MN) this is Dave Brookhouser for GVSB Eyewitness News. *smirk*

Apparently House of GVSB (HoGVSB) has been bumped (sorta) by Blue Mountain. The 400 Bar has booked Blue Mountain for this Monday and Tuesday therefore ending HoGVSB by 10:30/11pm. The listing in this weeks City Pages (Mpls's weekly alternative paper) lists HoGVSB 8pm and Blue Mountain at 11pm.
I'm wondering how this is going to be done as HoGVSB is free and I'm sure Blue Mountain is not. Also, Blue Mountain fans are going to freak when they show up early to see the 400 Bar turned into a hoppin' dance club (if Eli does his spins). Better yet it'd be really cool if GVSB played live and blew the doors off the place right before the gentle rock sounds of Blue Mountain. I REALLY doubt if they'd do that so this just leaves three more HoGVSB shows left and still no live GVSB... it's looking bleak!
Oh well... time will tell.

Here's the news, "Radio K", The University of Minnesota’s AM station had Alexis and Johnny on the air this afternoon. Basically they were there to drum up attendance to their “House of GVSB” party. The DJ (as usual) didn’t know squat about the band (he introduced them as “2/5ths of the band?”).
So I called the DJ up and asked him, to ask them, if they ever planned to play live @ House of GVSB... he said “Hold on you can ask them”. I think Johnny came on... I asked the question and he said “well... maybe, we’re not sure, we might”. I asked how the recording was going...”good, real well.” He asked me if I was going to come down tonite, I said “maybe” and he told me to “stop by and say ‘hi’ if I do”. That was about it.
Back on the air the DJ asked when the record would be released? They said “What record? Where just using Geffen to throw this party, there’ll be no record!” Basically it was just Alexis and Johnny screwin’ around on the air the whole time. The DJ asked, “Why Minneapolis?” and they said that the producer likes the studio, they checked it out and loved it also. Johnny or Alexis said that “it’s a brand new place with tons of cool stuff. Lot’s of real cool sounding guitars that don’t work that well.” They stayed for about a half an hour and playing some of their "favorite" music including: Teenage Atari Riot, an old ska song, and some Matador Records stuff. They said good bye by inviting people to come up to them and bother them for free drink tickets (the bar owner apparently gives them a bunch at the beginning of the night) tonite.
Tonite it’s just Eli spinning tunes so I think I’ll skip it (again), who know’s...I’m not much into the dance thing...
Oh yeah... they said that coming up they would have special guests Flour and Britts (help me out people who are they?) and a “Goth Night” because “what’s better than some good goth?... I mean after this ska/punk thing passes it’s gonna be goth maaannn!”... I’m paraphrasing there but it was all a joke anyway. The DJ said that “you’re a little too tan for the goth thing aren’t you?” .

Well here's another (non) report from House of GVSB here in Minneapolis. I'll reiterate what's happening here.... GVSB is in town for two months recording their Major Label Debut for Geffen Records. The band has taken over a local live music venue and is throwing a "House of GVSB" party every Tuesday for friends and fans (there's no cover).
This week I DID NOT attended (my first). I was still reeling from being a _complete_ idiot and drinking WAY to much at last Tuesday's event. Here's what I DO know: The "Special Guest" was to be ex-label mates (and local band) Arcwelder. They are a three piece with little room for help by any GVSBer's so I felt I was safe enough that I wasn't missing any live GVSB to stay home.
I am encouraged that they seem to be keeping close ties with other "indie"/Touch and Go bands even though they are going "big time" (can you say..."Smells Like Nirvana"?). Oh well...until next week...(Let's hope I have something to actually REPORT next time...like a live show w/ pictures!!!)
Well here's my report of what went on at "House of GVSB" this Tuesday here in Minneapolis. First off I must say I totally got wasted...no I mean totally totally wasted. I had to call in sick yesterday (Wednesday) because I was still puking at 8am [can you say...LOSER!] Anyway...here's the shit.
10pm rolls around and I hear a voice from the stage...it's Scott. He
welcomes everybody to "House of GvsB" and that we "shouldn't be
frightened but tonite we have clowns". Sure enough there are two clowns
doing stuff clowns do... balloons the whole nine yards. Then Scott
welcomes Brick Layer Cake to play a live set. So what you say?
Well....Scott never leaves the stage! The second song was "Satin Down"
and everything else was non-GVSB material. It was cool but still no
GVSB gig.
Once again all of the band was in attendance. I (drunkenly) spoke with Alexis for a few seconds ... asked him how the recording was going and he kind of hesitantly said "good"...I asked about the new producer, how they liked Minneapolis, and what they expected from Geffen that Touch and Go couldn't offer. It was loud and I was way to Fucked Up to remember what the whole answers were. Basically he said that they liked the producer and that "he's here tonite", they are enjoying Minneapolis, and he basically laughed and srugged off the Geffen Vs.Touch & Go thing. After the fairly lengthy set (about 1 1/2hrs) Eli came on and spun disks. A lot of people danced.
Remember kids: Drink responsibly!
Dave-out....
Pictures from the evening
Just a FYI... just did a walk thru of yesterday's "House of GVSB" (only to make sure I wasn't missing a live show). It was 10pm and there were only about 20 people max there. Eli was spinning disks (he had a funky hair thing goin' on...standing pretty much straight up) and I didn't see any other band members (they could have been downstairs or I just plain missed them). The leader of Brick Layer Cake (a Touch and Go band) was there hangin' out (he was there last Tuesday also) .... That's about all I have to report... I was tired and didn't feel like hangin' out...
Oh yeah ... My girlfriend spotted the band (all except for Johnny) riding bikes around "The Lakes" (a park with walking and bike paths around a chain of lakes here in Mpls.) on Sunday afternoon.
Here's the poop on "House of GVSB" at The 400 Bar. Eli played disks from a turntable until 12am (included were LL Cool J's "Momma Said Knock You Out" and The Beastie Boys, Pauls B. era I believe). Then at 12am, Special Guests Atari Teenage Riot played a "spinning" set (minus the female but including live vocals). The band (GVSB) members were in VERY good spirits, and the turn out was pretty damn good. Eli single handily turned the "live music only" venue into a very weird/cool dance bar. Let's see what next week brings... They have to play live once in the next two months don't they??? Well let's hope...
