Just a little tip for you guys in love with GVSB. Check out Elevate. Their one and only fullength is called ”The Architect” and is produced by noone less than Eli Janney. There are lots of connections between the two bands, both musically and lyrically, so...just wanted to tell ya.

dig it, baby, hell yeah, gvsb' new album is anticipated!!! caught the AP article and must say these guys are gonna break it down big time. didja catch the lil' square in Details magazine about the boys? thumbnail pic, thumbnail article, but they did say they were looking forward to the new album. hate to ask, but anyone got a bootleg of a gvsb show? (wink wink) when you hear scott's voice, he makes yer ears bleed and your insides melt. how many others can do that? twist the viscera, take my pulse, cause i can't see....

Greetings. I must just say that GVSB are undoubtedly the greatest band in the whole world. Since getting Cruise Yourself, I now own everything they have ever committed to greasy vinyl. However, living in england, we hardly ever get to see them, but I did manage to see them at Reading '96, and they were the most amazing band I have ever seen.

I first saw GVSB at CMJ show at Irving Plaza in 1994 when they played with Brainiac, Jawbox & Poster Children. I was blown away with their 45 minute set & have been a fan since then. Two basses are better than one! Great site - now I have a place to check out GVSB on a regular basis Keep Rockin!!! Any GVSB fans in Southwest Ohio? (Besides Dorsie @ 97X)

somebody told me gvsb wasn't chick music. whatever. if i know one thing for sure, it's that gvsb is balls-out rock. they wail, they scorch, best of all, they burn...and being a girl (and the only female gvsb fan i know)all i can say: "Is time to fuck this shit up again?"

Cruise yourself is in my head almost everyday. Excellent album. It seems to me the album gets better with time. I saw them open for the JL in madison . I also saw them play at the univ. of wisc. union a while back -no one was there? They rocked the hardest @ mercury lounge this past summer Keep rocken guys!! Without cruise' my scattered smothered and covered would be ruined from playing it so much.

I really love this site! I was disappointed that there were no lyrics for Magattraction. It's one of my favorites.

Late June '97 the alternative college radio station of Sioux Falls, South Dakota (KAUR 89.1fm) played Cruise Your New Baby Fly Self amid guffaws at the name of the song. I hate that conservative suburban uptight town. Why don't you come down the Missouri River and play a show in her liberal sister Sioux City, IA?

Nice page ! Yeah, GVSB soundz are great for cruisin' especially the unmatched cruise yourself. There's no way the guys are gonna match that album. Just the title-song is absolutely brill. There's no use picking a best song actually 'cause each song gives this feel. My fave isn't really an album though. It's SEXY SAM. Go buy that first, and choose your lp's from there. Venus Luxure ! No opinion really. Just some air off my chest.

I agree Sunglasses At Night would be entertaining. I was wondering if anybody was special enough to have gotten one of the promo lighters from when the Super-Fire single came out. I would be extremly grateful to anyone who could give me any info regarding obtaining one. Also is anyone aware of other t-shirts avail.by mail order other than the Green Touch And Go one Thanks

GVSB are good. Got quite a vocabulary, dont I? I first heard them in Borders books and music, and I loved 'em. They are the perfect music for when you are sleepy but dont want to go to bed.

GVSB are definitely the best band around - I can barely listen to anything else anymore because it all sucks in comparison. Can anyone recommend any other good music, whether it's in the hardcore/punk vein or not? E-mail me at fredvp@imperium.net

Agreed totally about GVSB being the best soundtrack for late night cruising of all kinds. Seen them twice here in Wales at Newport NJ (name-checked in the Cruise Yourself sleeve notes) . Nothing will top Venus Luxure though, and just wish I was born 2 years earlier so I could have seen them supporting the Jesus Lizard in 92!

GVSB dominates my CD player these days. Anyone who does not have EVERY ONE of their CD's is missing out. Although their sound has changes dramatically since their initial 80's vs. 90's album, two things remain constant- origionality and style. No one sounds like GVSB, and that is why they are one of the best bands around right now.

I think GVSB represents everything that the radio friendly top forty punk-alternative does not> They have style! Maybe their music is not quite as popsy and catchy as alanis morrisette but GVSB does have atmosphere texture and originality. I become hypnotized by the groove they produce and when i first heard their music (kill the sex player) was not satisfied by any other band. Hopefully since they signed with Geffen they wont lose too much of their sound(ie The Jesus Lizard signing with capitol) but will keep their raw double bass attack. I personally cant wait for the new album.

A Week ago I bought GVSB new single "Super-fire". Now it's my favourite record and I listen to it all the time. I haven't heard them before but I had listened at touch&Go stuff like Jesus Lizard. I love fugazi and other dischord bands.

Hey, does anyone out there remember that really hilarious Corey Hart song "I wear my sunglasses at night"? Well, I was just wondering what that song would sound like if GVSB did a cover of it. In a strange way, I think it would be cool.

Absolutely the dogs bollocks in all respects - & it's great to see a homepage (albeit unofficial) at long last. Small gripe - Scott can mutter away to his hearts' content for me, but I do wish they'd put down what he's going on about. I'm English, & half the time I can't tell a bloody word. Gigs- I've been to see them 3 times now, & they just get better & better. Next time they tour the UK I might manage a review - we'll see. Cheers

Girls Against Boys kick ass! Wilmington, Explicitly Yours, Stay in the Car, In Like Flynn, and Life in Pink are my top 5 songs. I heard that their new album might move slightly more towards industrial with the sound of the keyboards. Well, whatever they do certainly will be great, as well as cutting edge.

I've been moved! Oh Well, this is pretty cool. I hope more people keep on writing here. However, I at the moment have little to say. I do have one little note, though, if anyone owns/can play a guitar and they spend 5 minutes listening to House Of GvsB they should be able to figure alot of stuff out, IT'S REALLY EASY! Until later, farewell.

GVSB is the band of the future, no question about it. They move me in every way possible, and will remain my personal fave for quite a while.

i'm glad to see some good gvsb web pages out there, you guys are doing a great job. i'm glad that i found people that love gvsb as much as i do and aren't trying to keep gvsb all to themselves. i've been listening to gvsb for about four years now, i caught on right around the cruise yourself days, my brother had borrowed v lux and tropic of scorpio off of his friend matt. i stole the tapes ( anything that my brother and his friends listened to was golden to me in my youth) and the first song i remember hearing was my night of pleasure , i think, well that's after i stole the tapes. i heard my brother listening to them, i thought they were kinda dark, and i was huge into fugazi, shudder, jawbox, anything dc related. my friend nick had also found a likeness for the band at the same time. well, me and nick weren't friends at the time, but we started being friends because of gvsb. i've seen gvsb about five times, and i have the actual setlists from a few shows. i was at the knitting factory show and i want to know the names of the new songs. i read the web pages, i know one is named park ave. i remember the new songs vividly. one song had the same notes in the chorus that of raindrop, just a tad different in tempo. g-a-b. johnny was playing those notes, i watched his hands. i drove in all the way from new haven to see the show, i also saw the make-up the night before.

I can't really say where I think GVSB are going, because if you compare, say, "Tropic of Scorpio" with "House of GVSB," they are so different that there was no way of telling way back in 1992 that the music would evolve into what it has. Another fun thing, at least for me, is to listen to a Soul Side album, and then immediately listen to the "Disco 666" single. (Really amusing is to compare Soul Side's "Kill" to GVSB's "Black Leather.") I actually don't have a favorite album, but I can say that I don't like "Cruise Yourself" as much as I do the others. There are individual songs on there that I really like ("Explicitly Yours," "Raindrop," etc.) but somehow the album as a whole doesn't quite reach the level of the others. I guess, if pressed, I would choose "House of GVSB" as their best album, and considering that they have generally improved over the years (though they were always great), I can't even imagine how magnificent their next album will be. I don't think that moving to Geffen will in any way alter their sound. (God, I hope not!)
...A few months ago, I emailed Eli Janney about a discovery I made, and you should know this, too. There is a novel called "No Ceiling But Heaven," by Mykal Banta, which is out of print but your library may have it, that totally fits with GVSB's music -- the lyrics of the songs, the atmosphere of the music, everything. It's amazing. I made a soundtrack for the book using their music, because the parallels between the events in the book and the songs are so completely exact, it's incredible. But Eli said he had never read it, and the book was written in 1987, so there is no way the two could have influenced each other. It's just a miracle! The book is about two twin brothers (Bobby, who's really bad, and Johnny, who's mentally slow and really good), and it's really simply but beautifully written. You know how GVSB sound like you're driving around late at night in this run-down, deserted, really scary part of a city, but somehow you feel really good sitting in your car and looking at all the broken windows and yellow streetlights? That is the feeling you get from the book. It's great!
