Well, well...the infamous news section. If I hear anything concerning the band, I'll put it in here. If you happen to know something I don't, mail me as usual.

October 3

  • I'll break this silence to announce a benefit GVSB show at the Black Cat in DC October 23. Click here for more info.

    July 18

  • Ugh, sorry about that 3 month delay. I've just been entirely unmotivated to update the site any more. Sorry to say it, but don't expect another update in a while, if at all. Enough of that, though, so without further ado....
  • The band played a couple of shows in DC and NYC last weekend, where they played out some new songs, most of which sounded great in my opinion. Click here to see a bunch of reviews of the gigs sent to 7Seas.
  • When we left off, GVSB were playing a mini-tour with Firewater. Click here to see reviews of those shows.
  • Eli's back to his old re-mixing ways, this time doing remixes for Placebo and Luscious Jackson.
  • Some Links have been added. First, Johnny's been working hard to get the Akashic Books site up and running, and it's looking great. Second, our friend Matt has put out a great GVSB site with tons of great stuff not found anywhere else, most notably a bunch of hard-to-find GVSB MP3s. Finally, long-time tab contributor Michael Bukowski has a bunch of GVSB tabs on his site.
  • A trio of some of our favorite bands have sadly come to an end. The all-mighty Jesus Lizard called it quits after exactly ten years of the best live shows and better albums around. Shudder to Think, who were very close to GVSB, have apparantly drifted apart (although this is complete rumor and speculation, it was reported on 7Seas, and you can't deny what you hear on the Internet). And, by far the saddest of all, Mark Sandman, bassist and vocalist of Morphine, died onstage of a heart attack in Italy a couple of weeks ago, ending one of the more original sounds of the 90s.

    April 16

  • GVSB's mini-tour is going on as we speak. Send in reviews if you have them, and stay tuned for others.
  • The final 10 questions of our interview with the band is up. Enjoy
  • 7Seas has switched hosts, and we're on ONElist now. Click here to subscribe.
  • A new article is up.

    March 31

  • Another 10 questions of the interview is up. Only one more!

    March 20

  • The next 10 questions of our interview with the band is up. This week's episode has our characters contemplating who would win in a fight, what the ideal festival lineup would be, and many of life's other mysteries.

    March 13

  • The band has taken that Beatles plunge and formed their own label, Zodiac Love Group (ZLG). No word yet on what will be done with it.
  • Some new songs are in the writing stage. Recording for a new album "should" be done later this year, with release in 2000.
  • We've received 2/5 of our very own online interview with the band. Do check it out.
  • The band played two shows last week at Brownies and at Irving Plaza, where they tested out a few new songs. Unfortunetely, there were some major sound problems at the Irving Plaza gig, making it not quite up to par. Read all about it in the show reviews section.
  • Alexis sent us a couple of new pics. As I'm still too lazy/busy to update the images section, here are links to them:
    • A cool one of Scott
    • The band pondering our tough interview questions.
  • There was an article about Eli in MacWorld of all places. That Powerbook comes in handy when he's remixing on the road.

    February 25

  • Tour! East Coast! April! Check out the tour section for info!
  • New article!

    February 22

  • Check out MTV's 200 Cigarettes page for a soundclip to GVSB's contribution to the soundtrack, a cover of Earth Wind and Fire's "Boogie Wonderland" that sounds an awful lot like "Let Me Come Back." The movie, which has the band performing in a nightclub scene, opens February 26 (I feel like I should be paid for that plug).

    February 12

  • Word is that GVSB are playing March 10 at the Knitting Factory in NYC, with none other than RUN DMC. Other "surprise" gigs here are there are possible too. Check out Johnny DJing at Brownies on Tuesday the 16th, with "special unannounced guests."
  • Here's a snippet from a "look back at 1999" from Magnet Magazine: "july--a major blow to indie rock: girls against boys breaks up over what their publicist describes as "coiffured-related differences." magnet's jonathan valania reports the final spilt occurred when scott mccloud and alexis fleisig, who use holding gel, simply couldn't stand working with moussers johnny temple and eli janney. "i just can't trust a man whose hair is standing up," mccloud sniffs."
  • Scott contributed a track to a French compilation CD recently. Here's the scoop from Jimmy Baptista:
The track is by Killer LP Trax. It's Scott Mc Loud on his very own.The title of the song is "Pure Love Action",it's really weird. It sounds like a cross between New Wet Kojak's "Get The Curse" and Daft Punk's "Rollin' and Scratchin'" only it would have been remixed by The Aphex Twin. When i first heard Scott singing on this track,i thought it was a remix of "Vogue Thing" but it's a completely new track. There's this loud and distorded techno beat, and some really noisy dissonant guitars over it.It's really amazing but it could really surprise most of you,it's very very far from what you could expect from any GVSB member.

There's 14 tracks on this comp cd called "Taty Du Post Rock".Bands are Playdoh,Chokebore(an acoustic version of the track "Speed Of Sound"),Shane Cough,Gainsaid,John,Münch,Heidi Fleiss,The Shyness Clinic,Killer LP Trax,Moan,Betty,Manifold,Unwound(it's "Lifetime Achievement Award"-same version as the one that features on "Challenge For A New Civilization")and NK.The cd costs about 10$.Here's the adress where ya can get it:
      Ultra-Violet
      25 Avenue Du Canada
      35200 Rennes
      France

    February 2

  • Big news from the label merger situation: It looks like GVSB will be moved to Interscope, meaning they're not being dropped and can go on with their normal schedule of touring, writing, and recording.
  • Alexis sent me these three great pictures: Sorry they're not in the images section, but I still want to reorganize it.

    January 19

  • More from that infamous finale of the Garbage tour. First, Alexis himself sent me a couple of pics from the fateful night, towels and all. They're not up in the unorganized images section just yet, but you can find them along with an account of the show here. You can also read Rolling Stone's account (with accompanying picture, again, towels and all) at Irene's brand-new GVSB site here. Perfect opportunity to give it a visit, don't you think?
  • GVSB continue to invade the web, as a GVSB discussion board has been set up here.
  • A lengthy and humorous interview the band did on the air over the summer with K-Rock is now up, faithfully transcribed by one Arleigh Faith Temple, who deserves a bunch of credit.

    January 14

  • Looks like GVSB's status is still in limbo with Geffen, and they're hoping to find out their fate soon. Moving to a subsidiary label is now a possibility, along with being dropped and being kept. The band's uncertainty with Geffen has left them with little to do, as they can't really tour or write/record while their status is up in the air. Still, they've been very active, with Eli doing Garbage and Blondie remixes, and Scott doing a GVSB remix for a French compilation. Also, "Psycho Future" will be released as a single soon, with that hard-to-find nugget "Magattraction" as the B-side.
  • Alexis has contacted me, and the band wants to do answer YOUR questions. So, if you have something you've been dying to ask GVSB, send it my way, and I'll send it their way (don't worry, I'll forward their response back to you).

    January 13

  • Sad news: the planned European tour has been cancelled. The New Wet Kojak tour is still on, though, and GVSB may go back to Europe in March or April (who hasn't heard that one before?)

    January 11

  • Rumor has it that GVSB's status with Geffen will be determined in the next week or so, so stay tuned.
  • The latest issue of Alternative Press has GVSB's picks for the best and worst of 1998. Mr. Darin Mitchell was kind enough to transcribe them for your enjoyment:
  • A track listing for the 200 Cigarettes soundtrack has been reported as follows:

    January 6

  • The rumors are apparantly true: ads for a European GVSB tour have been spotted. Dates forthcoming. In the meantime, check out the confirmed New Wet Kojak European tour dates.
  • A new article has been posted regarding the band's involvement in "200 Cigarettes." See the newly-archived news sections for more info.
  • I know, the backlogged images need to be added. Get off my back already.
