Second Half, 1998
Well, well...the infamous news section. If I hear anything concerning the band, I'll put it in here. If you happen to know something I don't, mail me as usual.

December 28

  • Whew! 35 new articles were added. Your fellow GVSB fans spent a lot of time finding/transcribing/posting them, so the least you can do is read them!

    December 27

  • Not much new content, but the articles section got completely re-organized, with new naming and describing conventions in effect. Any opinions/suggestions/compliments/insults are VERY welcome. Just mail me, as usual. Those oft-promised new articles WILL be added by 1999.
  • Eli's been remixing again, this time for a band called Sons of Bitches. Their CD is available from Tiger Baby Records, and all the info can be found here.

    December 22

  • Yeah, finally back, this time with some substantial CONTENT added. Check out all the great new show reviews that have been building up for six months. More content to be added in the next few days, as I finally have that wonderful asset known as time.
  • News-wise, there's actually some serious stuff going on. With some major label mergers going on, GVSB is reportedly close to being dropped from Geffen. Here's an excerpt from an Addicted to Noise article: "Critically acclaimed but less profitable bands, such as avant-garde rockers Sonic Youth and modern-rockers Girls Against Boys, are 'question marks,' said this staffer, who requested anonymity." Meanwhile, the band is apparantly not phased by the situation. Ibrahim was fortunate enough to chat with Johnny, who says, "We don't know yet, but don't you worry, believe it or not, we're not as concerned as you might think.  If we are dropped, our pace will hardly slow down...." About going back to Touch-and-Go, Johnny added, "We'll wait and see what happens before we start telling people what our plans are.  I'm sure the whole scenario will be a bit more resolved in a couple of weeks." And, amid the flutter, the band's manager issued this semi-formal statement (too long to print in this space, but definetely worth the read, so click the link).
  • In lighter news, the band picked up quite a few new fans when they supported Garbage this fall. Just check out the opinion page for further proof. Also be sure to read this review of the final show of the tour, where the band apparantly upstaged Garbage in their hometown :)
  • If you were one of the three people to witness the horror that was the Psycho remake, you may have heard "Psycho Future" in there. Yup, the band contributed the song to the soundtrack.

    October 9

  • The broken record is back. Once again, apologies for not updating the site. Good news is that motivation's finally creeping back in.
  • Well, the band is currently in the midst of a North American tour supporting Garbage. It should last until December or so.
  • GVSB will have a web cast of their October 14 concert at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. The show will be broadcast on Sonicnet and will start at 8PM EST. Do check it out!
  • The band's official web page is finally up: www.gvsb.com.
  • GVSB appear on the soundtrack for Permanent Midnight, contributing the track "EPR." This is officially the only place you can get the track in the US.

    August 29

  • Again, sorry for the lack of updates. There's a whole backlog of articles, images, etc. that will be added, but for now, I'll just update the news and touring info.
  • First off, the big news is that GVSB are on tour, and look to be on tour at least until the end of 1998. They're playing the Reading Festival in England this weekend, then there are a bunch of unconfirmed European dates for the first half of September, then comes a full-blown North American tour, supporting Garbage. Details and dates can be found in the tour section.
  • The next GVSB single, Roxy, has been heard on radio stations, and should be "officially" released in September.
  • Non-Europeans looking for that elusive GVSB b-side "EPR" can find it on a bonus disc from Chart Magazine. To get a copy, send $5 (US) to:
      Chart Communications
      200-41 Britain St.
      Toronto ON
      Canada M5A 1R7
Include a note requesting the August '98 issue, and they should send it out to you.
  • If you still haven't seen the horrible video for Park Avenue, Streamland has it here.
  • New Wet Kojak, the side project of Scott and Johnny, are supposedly looking to put out a new album in early 1999, as the other members are reportedly recording in Venice right now. With GVSB's heavy touring schedule over the next few months, early '99 seems highly unlikely, but it's nice to know it's going to happen.
  • The soundtrack for the Witchblade comic book, which has a GVSB cover of the Eagles' "Witchy Woman" on it, now has a web site with sound clips.

    July 20

  • Ugh, sorry it's taken so long to update. Sad news is that I'm putting the site on semi-hiatus for now, which means that I'll only be doing news/tour updates (no new articles, images, etc). The main reason is that I work on web pages for a living now, and updating this one is the last thing I want to do when I come home :( This is VERY likely to change once the summer ends and I find myself back at school, itching for ways to procrastinate. In the meantime, you can join Sevenseas, the GVSB mailing list, as that's still the best place to go to get all things GVSB. Also, please feel free to keep sending me stuff to add to the site (show reviews, articles, etc), as I will save it for the fall and I promise there WILL be more updates. 'Tis about it. Comments/death threats are welcome.
  • A bunch of little changes throughout the site, including an updated tour schedule (oh yeah, the band's on tour).
  • The video for "Park Avenue" debuted on 120 Minutes on MTV last night. This is NOT the video the band was supposed to do with Nick Gordon, but just a little promo video that was thrown together (and it shows). PA wasn't the success the band was hoping for, so attention/budget is probably being shifted to the superior "Roxy" as we speak.
  • In the "GVSB can now be considered trendy" department, Freak*on*ica has been named one of "Fall Semester's Essential Discs--Music For Your Dorm" by the Abercrombie & Fitch's catalog.
