Well, well...the infamous news section. If I hear anything concerning the band,
I'll put it in here. If you happen to know something I don't,
mail me as usual.

June 29
Check out a bunch of new tour dates. Looks like they'll close the summer by hitting Canada, then returning for few more East Coast shows.
In case you missed it, GVSB were on the Conan O'Brian Show on Friday night, playing Park Avenue.
Sorry, there's a lot to update. Just not motivated right now. Check back later this week or early next :)
Wow, we hit the 10,000 hit mark. I continue to be shocked at the response. Again, couldn't have done it without these lovely people.
June 23
It looks like the July 6 show at Maxwell's has been cancelled, because the club won't be open at that time. New Yorkers can still check the band out the following night at the Bowery Ballroom.
A TON of new images have been added, including many shots of the band playing live, as well as some promotional posters.
June 21
In the calm before the storm that is the band's US tour, GVSB will throw a couple of House of GVSB parties in NYC. The first will be at Wax on June 22, the second at Newbury Comics June 24.
A commercial for Freak*on*ica was caught on 120 Minutes on MTV last week. Check for a "Park Avenue" video soon (possibly tonight....)
Another week, another update. Check out the new articles, show reviews, and tabs, if you dare.
June 14
Whoa, a bunch of new US tour dates have been announced. Do check them out :)
A couple of new show reviews and articles have been added. Images, sound clips, and some minor site reorganization forthcoming....
June 9
Freak*on*ica lyrics are up, for those of you too lazy to read them on the album sleeve (you know who you are).
GVSB's site at Geffen is now up and running, with some very cool javascripting indeed.
June 6
Freak*on*ica is out now. If you have yet to buy it, what are you waiting for? The retail price for the album, which usually hovers around $17, is a very cheap $9.99.
GVSB was spotted on MTV News again, this time with Garbage giving their praise for the new album, as well as an interview with Eli. Here is the accompanying article. Also, "Park Avenue" was played in the background at that movie "award" show. And the best MTV news of all is that the band is putting the final touches on the video for "Park Avenue," as opposed to the rumor saying that the video had been scrapped.
Speaking of Eli, congratulations are in order, as he is now engaged to be married.
Some more tour dates on the west coast have been announced.
New show reviews from the band's current tour in Europe are up, as are some new articles. Freak*on*ica fan reviews, lyrics and sound clips are forthcoming.
June 1
Some US TOUR DATES have been confirmed, with many many more on the way.
The eve of Freak*on*ica's US release, and there are some additions to the site, including four new articles and a tab for Psycho Future. Again, reviews/articles about the new album are all over the place, with a TELEVISION COMMERCIAL for it being spotted in Canada. Unfortunately, though, rumor has it that the video for "Park Avenue" has yet to be shot, and may be scrapped :(
Tommorrow night, a chat channel on IRC called #gvsb will be opened to discuss the new album. The plan is for people to show up at around 9pm EST. Don't be left out.
May 28
Well, the album's release in the US is less than a week away, and the band's world tour kicked off last night in Bristol. Go to your local newsstand and I'm sure you'll find a bunch of articles about the band (I'm still looking for transcribers). Turn on the radio and you may hear a GVSB tune or two (if you still haven't heard anything off Freak*on*ica, CDNow has some clips). The hype machine has begun, although it remains to be seen how far it will take our favorite band.
Something new for everyone on the site: a couple of new articles; an entry for "Park Avenue" added to the discography, along with its nifty artwork; some tour rumors, with a June 26 appearance on Conan O'Brian being a very cool possibility; and, last but not least, a tab for "Park Avenue." Enjoy.
May 19
Today's the day of Freak*on*ica's release in Europe. And it's out on clear blue vinyl (slick) in the US. The question remains: What are you waiting for?
With the release of the album, I plan to set up a fan review section, similar to the show review section. So, if you have any thoughts on the album, send them over, and I'll probably post them. Or you can post them yourself on the opinion page. Or on Sevenseas. Around June 2, I'll also try to get an IRC channel going....
A new image of the band is now up, thanks to Jeff.
May 18
Freak*on*ica is set to be fully released in Europe tommorrow. Those of us in the States should also be able to pick up a vinyl copy of the album.
Before the Jesus Lizard show at the 9:30 club in DC on Wednesday will be a Freak*on*ica listening party, in the club's back bar. Fear not if you don't have tickets: there will be a separate entrance.
Four new articles were added, as were some scans of the vinyl art of Freak*on*ica. That reminds me, I now have access to a scanner, so I hope to add a bunch of images to the site.
May 13
Minor updates. Check out the Freak*on*ica page for some info about the promo single for "Park Avenue," that's making its way around.
Here's a review of Freak*on*ica, from Entertainment Weekly's college issue (thanks to Karen): "The guitars sound massive and the band still makes one hell of a racket, but this New York quartet's major label debut is strangely tepid, particularly compared with the huge, soulful grooves found on 1996's House of GVSB. B-"
May 8
Ech, sorry for the lack of updates in the last couple of weeks. I could give you a list of some bad excuses, but there's too much to report.
The hype machine for the new album is in full force. Articles about the band have been reported from all over, including Alternative Press, Melody Maker, RayGun, Vox (which includes a CD with "Exorcisto" on it), and CMJ (which includes a similar CD with "Park Avenue"). There's also this article from Billboard. "Park Avenue" has been sent out to all major radio stations (call them up at request it!), and promotional posters have popped up at record stores across the land, as have illegal promo copies of the new album. Let me know if you have anything else to report, or if you have any transcribed articles you'd like to submit (I need all the help I can get right now).
We now have a decent collection of tabs! Michael Bukowski has been kind enough to contribute about ten new ones, but he admits they may not be perfect. So look them over and enjoy!
It's been reported that the song GVSB performs in the movie "200 Cigarettes" (see the last few news posts for info) is a cover of Earth, Wind, and Fire's "Boogie Wonderland." Check out this pair of articles from Allstar for all the info.
Two more European tour dates have been added, including an appearance at the Reading Festival.
Updates to the Freak*on*ica page, including a description of some artwork.
Some information was added to the discography concerning the song "Magattraction."
April 25
The band's tour dates have been altered a bit. Click here to see the updated list of shows.
April 21
NEWS FLASH: GVSB's cameo for "200 Cigarettes" (see yesterday's news) will be filmed TONIGHT at Coney Island High in New York, at around 9pm. If you're in the area, you're invited to come by, but there are no guarantees.
April 20
Here's the latest about "200 Cigarettes," the movie that GVSB will make a cameo in: the band will be playing in a nightclub that two main characters, played by Christina Ricci and Gabbi Hoffman, will go to. GVSB's big scene was shot sometime in the last week or so. Rumor has it that the song they play is an 80s cover (the movie takes place on New Year's Eve '82), and therefore, we may see them dressed in 80s garb. As for the movie itself, it is being released by MTV, and also stars Courtney Love, Paul Rudd, Casey Affleck, Jay Mohr, Kate Hudson, Martha Plimpton, with cameos by Ben Affleck, Elvis Costello, and GVSB-backer Jeanane Garofalo. Stay tuned.
Check out the Freak*on*ica page for some more information on vinyl releases of the new album, as well of the first single, "Park Avenue." It seems as if the video for this song will only be shot in mid-May, instead of mid-April. There's also some new stuff about scrapped song titles on there.
Promotional posters for Freak*on*ica have been popping up in record stores. Go beg for one today!
April 15
I got ahold of an MP3 of GVSB's cover of Joy Division's "She's Lost Control." It's a great thing to download if you can't find a copy of "A Means To An End" (the tribute album the song appeared on) and is probably my personal favorite GVSB recording.
Word of another (surprise) Eli remix, this one of two Throneberry songs off their latest album, "Squinting Before The Dazzle," on Alias Records.
Minor site clean-up.
April 10
Some very amusing and interesting news: Apparantly, ex-Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland has pratically stolen "Click-Click" from GVSB in a song called "Cool Kiss" (title sound familiar?) Here, take a listen for yourself. The band's reaction seems to be a very light-hearted one, with no action against Weiland planned. The story did make its way to MTV, though, with GVSB being interviewed by MTV News, cracking about how they have an agreement with Weiland to steal each other's songs. If you missed it (what, you're not watching MTV 24/7?), there are some video clips of the interview incorporated with an article about the ordeal. I highly recommend it. I also posted the article here.
Along with the Weiland news, the article gave us a bit more info about what the band is up to. They'll be shooting the video for "Park Avenue," the first single off the new album, with Nick Gordon, who also directed Roni Size's "Brown Paper Bag." After that, GVSB will apparantly be in a movie, called "200 Cigarettes," starring Ben Affleck, Courtney Love, and self-proclaimed GVSB fan Janeane Garofalo. Go here for more info on the movie.
Some updates to the site, including an allstar article that I forgot to post a month ago, and a slightly-altered links page.
April 3
With "Park Avenue" hitting the airwaves, it's also hit radio "stations" on the Net. If you want to hear it (and you do), listen to Alternative Rock World's "Future Smashes" broadcast. The song appears at about 42:45.
The discography has been updated, with a new picture for the Frank Sinatra tribute album that GVSB appeared on, as well as an entry for Freak*on*ica.
Another new article was added, this one a superb interview of Eli by Iain Henderson.
March 29
Sorry, some technical stuff. I just changed the way I code links across the site, because they were extremely inefficient before. So if you find any broken links, please let me know. Thanks.
Whoops, in my spring cleaning I accidentally deleted all of the opinions on the opinion page. This is the perfect opportunity for new posts :)
March 28
"Park Avenue," which will be the band's first single from the new album has started getting a bit of airplay on at least 89X in Detroit. This probably means that Geffen has distributed it to other radio stations as well, so call up your local one and request it.
A new article from MTV has been posted, dealing with band's upcoming schedule before the release of FREAK*ON*ICA. The new album page has been updated accordingly.
A new review has also been added from a 1996 show in Athens, Greece.
March 26
The first dates for the upcoming GVSB world tour have been announced. The band will play in Europe in late May and early June. Check out the tour section for all the dates, venues, etc.
There's a little write-up of a recent House of GVSB party in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. Apparantly, they attracted quite a few "celebrities" to the event, such as members of Shudder to Think and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
Here's a snippet about the band's performance at CBGB in New York last week, from the Village Voice:
"On early listens, their Geffen debut, not due out for some months, isn't quite the songbook that House of GVSB surprised us all
with. But that shouldn't affect the pump 'n' grind of their live show, where they
don't have to sing about *kissing* strobe lights--they just do it. Nothing
like pigfuckers who understand foreplay. Sweat helps, too, which shouldn't be
in short supply at this (GBGB's) venue."
Geffen has put up the skeleton of an offical GVSB website, at www.geffen.com/gvsb. Check out the spelling error :) In other "official site" news, the band has registered www.gvsb.com, which they will supposedly be designing themselves.
March 24
Well, the GVSB shows last week appear to have been a complete success. The band supposedly brought along a DJ for the ride, and, of course, there was a House of GVSB after every show. Read all about it in the revamped show review section.
March 14
Another House of GVSB dance party is slated for March 17 at Bar XVI in New York.
I added a bunch of stuff to the new album section, mainly taken from the press release. Do check it out.
March 13
Oh, happy days. Got a promo copy of Freak*on*ica today, courtesy of Geffen. Who says all major labels are evil? Anyway, the sound has indeed become more electronic, but is still very GVSB. More to come soon, with A LOT to add to the site, including many articles, the album's press release, and maybe even a couple of sound clips.
While I lucked out by getting an advanced copy of the album, I'm sorry to say that the rest of you in North America will have to endure yet another delay, now to June 2. Europeans keep the May 19 date.
Check out allstar for another GVSB article by frequent contributor Laura. Many up-to-date facts, etc. about the band's future in the next few months.
March 9
Indeed, GVSB will play at Upstairs at Nick's in Philadelphia on March 18. Check the tour section for an up-to-date list of upcoming shows.
Some minor graphics were changed on the site.
March 8
Let the pre-hype begin. Promo copies of the new album, now known to be titled Freak*on*ica, have been sent out to various journalists, etc. Check out the album's page for a track listing. Just two-and-a-half months, folks....
Tickets are on sale for the band's March 20 Black Cat appearance, as well as for a show at CBGB's in New York on March 19. Rumor has it that a Philly show is scheduled for around that time as well, but it's not confirmed.
February 26
Thanks to the efforts of a couple of fellow fans, I was able to post a complete video of GVSB's performance of "Kill The Sexplayer" on the Jon Stewart Show in 1994. Enjoy.
Just like that, Spring Break is upon us, so don't expect an update for a week or so.
February 21
Big news: GVSB is going to play a benfit show at the Black Cat in Washington, DC, on March 20. This will be their first live concert since July, and those in attendance should expect to hear a lot of the new album.
February 9
Ooh, ahh. If you have a half-way decent browser, you should be able to see a countdown to the new album at the top of this page. I'm sure you'll spend hours on end staring at it.
Some info was added to the discography about "Red Bar."
February 3
Great news for you New Yorkers: there will be a special House of GVSB Valentine's Day party on February 10, at the Bar XVI on 16 First Street. For those unfamiliar with the event, it will be band members DJing a dance party. Read this for accounts of House of GVSB in Minneapolis.
The band was named one of the "98 To Watch in 98" by Time Out New York (only about three musicians were named total). The excerpt: "Once a D.C. hardcore band called Soulside, Girls Against Boys has emerged from a punk-rock cocoon as one of those rare rock bands with a truly deep groove. GvsB has no need to splice hip-hop loops into its stark, angular sounds; the band's beats boom well on their own terms. Their major-label debut (out this spring) is said to have an early new wave/Killing Joke/Gang of Four sensibility. Get ready to see one of NYC's baadest bands go nationwide." Thanks to Jefferson for the info.
January 31
I changed the way opinions are posted, so that they're automatically posted. Sorry, but this means that all the old opinions are gone. Still, this is the perfect opportunity for you to speak your mind without letting the man get you down.
A new image has been added.
January 25
Some pictures have been added from the band members' early days in Soul Side and Lunch Meat...it's like looking at a yearbook. Thanks to Kevin Young.
January 24
Damn, sorry for this little piece of bad news, but the new album's release date has been pushed back to May 19 (It was originally March 24).
You can find some details about the band's upcoming world tour to support the album in the (where else) tour section.
January 22
Argh, I really am sorry for the month of not updating the site. There wasn't anything major to report anyway. Now there is, though: New Wet Kojak's coming out with another album, due out in late 1998. Read this article from Addicted to Noise (www.addict.com) to find out all about it.
Wondering what else the band has been up to on their break before the new album? Well, Johnny and Scott have apparantly been working on the aforementioned NWK album. Eli has been up to no good again with his remixing, this time for the Sneaker Pimps for an upcoming album of theirs. Another band he's helped engineer, Skeleton Key, is up for a Grammy. Finally, Alexis was spotted at a keroke party performing the Grease song "Summer Nights" and "1999" by Prince.
On the album front, there's a viscous rumor going around that the release date has been pushed back to May. Stay tuned.
As for this site, the second half of 1997's news has been archived (see link at bottom of this page), and I'm currently looking for ways to get some cool cgi scripts online. Also, the one-year birthday of the site came and went on January 17. Hooray.
