New Wet Kojak, the side project of Girls Against Boys members Johnny Temple and Scott McCloud, are about to have their second album, Nasty Interntional, released on Touch and Go on June 10, and a 12-inch out on Temple's indie label Akashic Records. This follows the project's self- titled 1995 debut on Touch and Go.
"We're doing a 12-inch vinyl- only remix of two 10-minute songs, 'Extended Tongue' and 'Extended Miramix' -- we're very self- indulgent," says Temple. "It should be out in two or three weeks."
Temple also tells us that the next Girls Against Boys album will be a bit different. "There's more of an electronic type thing happening," he says. But he's not concerned about potential talk of the band jumping on the electronica bandwagon. "The electronic bandwagon will have passed us by, by then," he says. "In all honesty, we are. But when we do it it's not going to sound like we're ripping anyone off. Whenever we incorporate anything new, I think we still sound like ourselves."
Meanwhile, Temple's getting more involved in political issues and is in the midst of forming an organization called Public Campaign. "We're trying to rally public support for very tough campaign finance reform laws. I'll try to get high profile artists to get involved," says Temple. "For a long time I've felt that there's so much corporate money in the political system and it is very obvious that many politicians are completely compromised by money they take from large donors. It really corrupts the political system."
